ABOUT DR. DAVE

Dr. David Gladstone is a 1995 graduate of the prestigious New York Chiropractic College and has been helping pro athletes and weekend warriors feel better and play better for almost 15 years.  He has been associated with TopGolf since October 2008 and is now on-site full time. His office is located in the VIP Members lounge.

Dr. Dave offers full chiropractic services but what makes make him unique is his knowledge of sports injuries and rehab through his Active Release Techniques certification. ART is the “Gold Standard” in soft tissue treatment. Every professional sports team has an ART-certified practitioner on staff, and all of the top professional golfers have an ART-certified chiropractor who joins them on the tour.

WHAT IS ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE AND HOW CAN IT HELP YOU?

ART is a patented, state of the art, soft tissue system/movement based technique that is a highly successful approach to acute or chronic injuries of muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, and the surrounding soft tissues.

Active Release is not massage, physical therapy, or even chiropractic. While those procedures relieve muscle and motion dysfunction, they do not necessarily address the underlying problems caused by scar tissue formation.

When applied appropriately by a certified ART practitioner, Back & Neck Pain, Headaches, Shoulder Pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Shin Splints, Sciatica, Plantar Fasciitis, Knee & Ankle Problems, Golfers & Tennis Elbow  and many other conditions can be resolved quickly and permanently.

These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often the result of over-used muscles.

HOW DO OVERUSE CONDITIONS OCCUR?

Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:

  • Acute Conditions (pulls, tears, collisions etc)
  • Accumulation of small tears (Micro-trauma)
  • Lack of oxygen (Hypoxia)

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped, you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.

WHAT IS AN ART TREATMENT LIKE?

Active Release Techniques, as the name implies, uses motion to fix the problem. Once the injury has been assessed, the doctor uses hands-on treatment and patient body motion to “free up” the problem areas. Treatment duration and frequency will vary depending on the severity and complexity of the injury. However, most patients experience rapid recovery.
